Admissions Process

Lusher Lower School (K-5) admissions are based on a two-part system.

Attendance District Applications

In-district Kindergarten students who have submitted the in-district application by March 15, 2012 and provide proof of residence will be admitted.

In-district students in grades 1-5 will be considered along with community applicants. Admission will depend upon the availability of spots at each grade level.

District applicants have a different application form and process. Community applicants who also live in the Lusher district must submit a separate application for the district. The district process runs February 13 to March 14 from 9 a.m to 3 p.m. and on March 15 from 9 until noon.

Community Applications

Students throughout Orleans Parish may apply for openings through a community application process, approved by the Office of Civil Rights.

The application process for 2012-2013 begins October 10, 2011 and ends January 13, 2012. Applications should be submitted in person from 9:00am to 3:00pm and ends NOON on January 13. Completed applications with all supporting documentation should be submitted to the Lusher Lower School office at 7315 Willow Street. Incomplete applications are not processed.

Late applications are accepted but are processed only if openings are available in the grade to which the student has applied and no applicants remain on the waiting list.

There are benefits to applying and testing early; all applicants completing the testing process by December, 2011 will receive early notification of the applicant’s matrix score and will know if the child is qualified to continue in the application process. Anyone testing in January will not receive information until spring.
