Admissions Process

Lusher Middle School (6-8) enrolls eligible current 5th grade Lusher students.  Remaining seats are filled with candidates who have applied through the community application process.

The application process for the 2012-13 school year begins October 10, 2011. Please check below for the application, tour and open house dates, and the admissions calendar.

Applications for admission for 2012-2013 are accepted between October 10, 2011 and NOON, January 13, 2012. Applications should be submitted in person from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Late applications are accepted but are processed only if openings are available in the grade to which the student has applied and no applicants remain on the waiting list.

Completed applications with all documentation attached should be submitted to the Freret Campus office at 5624 Freret Street no later than NOON, Friday, January 13, 2012.

Incomplete applications are not accepted or processed.

All applicants must have testing results from the Full Battery Iowa Test of Basic Skills or Iowa Test of Educational Development. The state of Louisiana official testing provides results for the Survey Battery, not the full battery Iowa so the Iowa part of the iLEAP is not acceptable for use with the Lusher matrix, therefore, all applicants must test at Lusher.  You must choose a testing date when the application is submitted. Students can earn a maximum of 20 points from the IOWA exam. Any student who has not earned at least 8 points from the combined GPA and Arts Profile matrix points will not be scheduled for testing as it would be impossible to attain the minimum of 28 points needed to qualify.

There are benefits to applying and testing early; all applicants completing the testing process by December, 2011 will receive early notification of the applicant’s matrix score and know if the child is qualified to continue in the application process. Anyone testing in January will not receive information until spring.
